May 13, 2007 Paul Martin bestbari@sympatico.ca Saw you guys Saturday night at Woodbine, and as I told Carlo, Powerhouse is the best entertainment Woodbine has EVER had! Loved the BIG, FULL SOUND! This place doesn't do you justice, with all the noise from the slots. Will definitely try to get to Timothy's on June 1st to hear you again. Commendations on your website. Haven't gone through it all yet. Keep up the good work! |

May 13, 2007 Paul Martin bestbari@sympatico.ca Hi again Carlo. Thought you may be interested in the following, which I wrote to Woodbine today: Last night (Sat May 12) after one of their sets, I was complimenting Carlo Di Battista, the bandleader and trumpeter of "Powerhouse" presenting "Chicago Tribute." I told him that this band is the BEST group that has ever performed at Woodbine Slots. Just when I finished the compliment, another gentleman (older than I) came up to him and said the same thing to both of us. (He is also a musician) Carlo thanked us, and said we should be telling this to the Winner's Circle Department, because after their Friday night's performance, he had the understanding that it was questionable that they'd even be asked to perform Saturday. (This of course, wouldn't have happened, presumably they're under contract!?) For the first time, I actually got off a machine, and wandered over to see/hear them perform. Every one of these guys are truly "EXCELLENT" musicians. Their sound system really did them well in the near- close areas. At least these guys "came through" the noise of the machines. For them to perform in a secluded area would have made it even better to hear. To sum up, 95% of the goups you contract, in my opinion are just crap, and that's exactly what the other gentleman said too. You had a young girl wandering through the audience (while they were playing) doing a head count. I sure hope she adds 50 + 50 equals150. When she was ushering some of the musicians from the stage, I stopped her and told her to make mention on her clip-board that this is the best group they've ever had. She said she would, but, did she? Would appreciate your response to this information. PDM |

August 26, 2004 Debra lady_batchic@yahoo.ca "WHAT IS HIP?" I've been listening to this song at work (Powerhouse and museum research go hand-in-hand, so it seems) and I would like to know some history about this quirky, flippy-hip tune. The Powerhouse CD does not give credit to song writer(s) or original band(s) that would have recorded it. Could you give me a clue? Cuz "Hipness is. . . what it is. [Except for when it ain't.]" Kudos, Lady BatChic Webmaster's reply: "What Is Hip?" was done by Tower of Power and first appeard on the album, "Tower of Power" (1973). Composers: David Garibaldi (drums), Emilio Castillo (sax), and Steve "Doc" Kupka (baritone sax). |
|

August 17, 2004 Lady BatChic lady_batchic@yahoo,ca Hey Carlo, Steve, Dave and all! Thanks for such fabulous entertainment at the Festival of the Islands bandstand in Gananaoque yesterday evening. "Powerhouse" lived up to its name: full of Chicago horniness, and having "Rod" guesting was a sweet surprise. I've been entitled to "Forever Young" on several occasions. . . this one was an unexpected pleasure. Great sound! Fond remembrances! Namaste, Debra (Lady BatChic) |
